The Washington Redskins made their final roster cuts today in order to get to the mandatory 53 man roster. Some of the more noteworthy cuts:
Marcus Mason-RB
Why you should care: Marcus was our workhorse in the pre-season leading the NFL in rushing with 317 yards. Being a huge Marcus fan this is tough for me to say but this is the correct decision. Simply put, the Redskins don’t need him. Cartwright is our return guy and Betts is a proven backup. Unless you are going to start Mason over Portis (a guy we are paying a lot of loot) you have to let Marcus go. In fact by cutting Marcus (a.k.a the #1 Stunna) the Redskins are doing him a favor. He stands to make more cash money this way with a team that can actually utilize his abilities. Best of luck #23, you will be missed.

Head Coach Jim Zorn made a risky decision this week. Rather than start the backups in the final and usually meaningless preseason game, he decided to go with his first team offense (minus CP, Randel El, and Jansen). The idea was to conserve as much momentum for the offense as possible after they got pimp smacked by the Carolina Panthers last weekend. In theory the plan seemed reasonable. In theory…

Received this little nugget from my brother-in-law. Apparently Redskins RB Marcus Mason is a star now along with Mkristo Bruce. Wait…who? Anyways, it’s always good to see a local guy gettin’ recognition. Look for Marcus to run over Mkristo Bruce this Thursday when the Redskins host the Jags in their final preseason game. Did you eat that squirrel Marcus?!

“Portis better watch his back” was one of the more memorable quotes from callers today on The John Thompson Show. Why should Clinton Portis be watching his back you ask? Well in case you haven’t had a chance to catch the skins preseason thus far, running back Marcus Mason, the former Georgetown Prep and Youngstown State standout, has been making quite an impact for The Washington Redskins. B-Mitch quickly reminded the caller that Portis wasn’t going anywhere because of his guaranteed contract but the point was made. The fans have spoken. They want Mason on this roster.

Saturday night was a good night for sports. It started off with the Skins hosting the Buffalo Bills in their second exhibition game and was capped off with Michael Phelps swimming the 400 IM. I must say I will rarely change the channel during a Redskins game, even if it is the fourth quarter of an exhibition game, but would not be able to call myself much of a sports fan if I did not see the freakish and fish-like Michael Phelps make history.
