Monday Morning QB: With Dr. Gonzo

by Dr. Gonzo on September 22, 2008

Dr. Gonzo Reporting

It was a week that proved it’s ok to be a Redskin, a week that taught us to believe in an underog and yet another week that proved the NFC EAST’s dominance.

Boy, what a week to be a current or former Redskin!

I bet you thought you would never read that Gus Frerotte, Brandon Lloyd and T.J. Duckett all had big weeks in 2008.  You’d think someone was out of they’re mind if they said that a month ago, well it happened.  “In Gus we Trust,” sound familiar, Gus was once again trusted with a team that was on the verge of dropping to a record of 0-3.  Not many teams have bounced back from such a putrid start, but have no fear Gus is here.

Trailing by 10 to Carolina, with the season on the line, Frerotte threw for 204 yards railing the Vikings to 20 straight points.  Now I know there are Gus haters out there, my father being one of them, but when I was younger Gus was all we had.  I always put my trust in Gus and often I am rewarded.  Gus, no one will ever forget your Billy Goat head butt, but in Week 3 of 2008 you are relevant again.

T.J. Duckett and Brandon Lloyd, two former Skins who played in the “Gibbs Squared” era each had big days yesterday.  Duckett ran for 79 yards and had 2 touchdowns, Lloyd caught 6 balls for 124 yards and 1 score averaging 20.7 yards a catch.  What this all means is that may be just may be, patience is a virtue?

Not for Ceratto, Skins GM and current radio darling who couldn’t wait to get these two guys out of town.  I don’t know what Duckett will do for the rest of the year or even what he’s done so far, but Lloyd looks rejuvenated and impressive.  Don’t worry though Vinny, Archuleta still sucks.

DON’T JUMP!

by Dr. Gonzo on September 5, 2008

Dr. Gonzo Reporting,

Step back from that ledge! It’s not worth it.

Okay, now I am aware the offense looked lost, the defense looked small and the secondary looked softer than angel soft toilet paper.  But it’s only one game.

Leading up to last nights game I, like most fans and media members, had a strange sense of optimism.  The downfall of a D.C. Sports fan.  My hometown blinders allowed me to look past an inexperienced coach, a small receiving core and the fact that no one was giving the Super Bowl champs any respect.  We were all naive.

Last night was the definition of a Redskins game in the Dan Snyder era, no one looked comfortable and they probably won’t until they’re 4-7 and have to win out to make the playoffs.  In the smash mouth NFC EAST, the Skins got popped in the mouth and didn’t pop back.

West Coast Woes: Redskins Lose Opener 16-7

by Rooster on September 5, 2008

We tried to ignore the preseason. We tried to brush off our inept offense. Maybe the Redskins lost interest in the preseason, we said. What we got however was more of the same in the NFL opener against the Giants. The Redskins first play from scrimmage resulted in a sack. That pretty much set the tone on offense for the rest of the game.

Honestly, what did you all expect? After getting run over by the Panthers and embarrassed by the Jags did you really think we were just going to roll into the Meadowlands and steal one from the defending Super Bowl Champs? As fans we would like for Zorn to come in, smoothly implement the West Coast Offense, and be competitive in the NFC East. But the truth of the matter is this is a work in progress. The problem here, and the reason why so many Redskin fans are in need of a stiff drink this Monday, is that The Redskins have been a work in progress for the last decade. We should be reaping the benefits of past draft picks and roster moves yet we find ourselves no better off than when Spurrier was at the helm. Okay, maybe a little better off.
