Skins Move Up In Power Rankings

by Dr. Gonzo on September 30, 2008

Dr. Gonzo Reporting,

The ESPN Power Ranking (however much weight you give them), have moved the Redskins up 9 places from 15th to 6th.  ESPN included all 4 NFC East teams in the top ten.

They’ve come a long way from the “Maroon and Black.”  A long way from having a first year guy who never called plays before.  So much progress has happened since halftime of the NY Giants NFL opener:  the Skins defense has only allowed 7 pts in the fourth quarter all year, oh yea, and Jason Campbell hasn’t turned the ball over at all.  WHAT IS GOING ON?

Have the Redskins finally turned the corner? Have they finally turned their backs on mediocrity?  Are they actually living up to the hype?

Dr. Gonzo Reporting,

I need to vent a little bit.

I like the majority of the United States Sports fan, love to wake up each morning and check out what happened in the world of sports. Most of us, including myself, flip on the tube and check out Sportscenter.

So this morning, like most mornings, I woke up, got some coffee and flipped on the tele, and what do I see? “TITLETOWN.” Possibly the worst thing that ESPN has invented since the search for the greatest highlight. You remember that one, Chris Berman would stumble on drunk each night and babble incessantly about some play from the past. Oh yeah, and then they did that fake tournament, which pitted great players from each sport against each other to see who was the greatest. Asinine!!

ESPN’s newest installment, called “Titletown,” is borderline retarded. For those unfamiliar with the concept of “Titletown,” let me break it down for you. Sportscenter sends an anchor to a different town each day. Then someone from the town, a former athlete or coach, will be interviewed about why they’re town should be considered “Titletown.” Then the voice over comes in and highlights the various achievements of athletes and teams from that town. The whole goal is to find the town with the best credentials to become “Titletown, USA.”

I would like to quote Kip, from the movie Napolean Dynamite, “like anyone could even know that.”

Kip was right no one knows where “Titletown” is, and you wanna know why, because it is the creation of some executives who care more about entertainment, then giving me my god damn highlights. You are aware ESPN, that you claim to be the Worldwide Leader in sports, yet you come up with Titletown, instead of covering Worldwide sports, like soccer or anything else for that matter.

Sometimes I flip from ESPN to Entertainment Tonight, and I can’t for the life of me tell the difference. ESPN has become what most of America has become, attention whores. In a poor attempt to boost ratings, Sportscenter is actually driving away it’s loyal fan base of guess who? SPORTS FANS. GIVE ME STATS, GIVE ME HIGHLIGHTS or GIVE ME DEATH…….
