“WE TALKIN BOUT DALLAS”

by Dr. Gonzo on September 27, 2008

Dr. Gonzo Reporting,

You heard the chants last week: WE WANT DALLAS, WE WANT DALLAS!!

Tomorrow at 4:15 eastern time we get em’.

The 3-0 Cowboys will attempt to defend their home turf for a final time against NFC EAST enemy the 2-1 Redskins.  It sure as hell wont be easy to beat a team with the top offense in the league, but if anyone can do it, it’s the Skins.

Let me remind you that just two seasons ago, Sean Taylor recovered a blocked field goal all the way in to our kickers range, and we stole one.

And who can forget our Monday night triumph, when the number 8 car found a speedy and healthy Santana Moss for two fourth quarter touchdowns.  Then to seal the deal, that Taylor guy destroyed a Cowboy receiver at the line to solidify a defensive stop that would lead to a 14-13 Redskins shocker.

Those memories are fresh in the fans minds, memories of never quitting until the last whistle.  Not all our memories are great; there was the time Aikman found Ismail for deep balls, deflating the Redskins home crowd.  Or the images of that coke head Irving getting away with countless offensive pass interferences.

If nothing else, we know the Skins will get up for this game.

I urge everyone to go online and watch Troy Aikman get obliterated by Lavar and try to find a rare clip of Dan Turk lighting up Deion Sanders on a punt return.  Take in all those old memories, because that’s all you can do right now, reflect and hope that Sunday will add to the memories of Cowboy failure.

Nothing would be sweeter than going in to the cesspool they call Cowboy Stadium one more time and ruining their last home game in this rivalry.

I want to see Romo on his ass, TO dropping balls over the middle and Roy Williams getting toasted by Santana Moss.

I know I’m ready, Are you ready coach Z?

You may have like the Cowboys before, you may have said, “hey may be they are Americas team,” but that was before you put on the Burgundy and Gold.  Get up to speed quick and get ready for a game that has all the passion of a collegiate rivalry and all the insanity of pro ball.

One more day till Dallas week comes to a climactic head, don’t miss this one.

P.S. If anyone sees Rooster, tell him that he still writes for this blog.

Rejoice, Rejoice, He Has Returned

by Dr. Gonzo on September 25, 2008

Dr. Gonzo Reporting,

You’ve heard the tales: man leads team to first national championship, man averages close to 30 pts a game a long the way, man overcomes losses of both parents and man comes to D.C. and drops 35 pts in the playoffs coming off the bench.

All those tales are the true-life story of the prodigal son Juan Dixon.  And now he is making his returning to the D.C. area signing a 1-year 1.03 million dollar contract with the Washington Wizards.

Juan returns once again, this time older, wiser and more suited for Eddie Jordan’s Princeton offense.  Dixon is known for his solid work ethic, hard-nosed defense and the ability to still drop in a bunch of points here and there.

Monday Morning QB: With Dr. Gonzo

by Dr. Gonzo on September 22, 2008

Dr. Gonzo Reporting

It was a week that proved it’s ok to be a Redskin, a week that taught us to believe in an underog and yet another week that proved the NFC EAST’s dominance.

Boy, what a week to be a current or former Redskin!

I bet you thought you would never read that Gus Frerotte, Brandon Lloyd and T.J. Duckett all had big weeks in 2008.  You’d think someone was out of they’re mind if they said that a month ago, well it happened.  “In Gus we Trust,” sound familiar, Gus was once again trusted with a team that was on the verge of dropping to a record of 0-3.  Not many teams have bounced back from such a putrid start, but have no fear Gus is here.

Trailing by 10 to Carolina, with the season on the line, Frerotte threw for 204 yards railing the Vikings to 20 straight points.  Now I know there are Gus haters out there, my father being one of them, but when I was younger Gus was all we had.  I always put my trust in Gus and often I am rewarded.  Gus, no one will ever forget your Billy Goat head butt, but in Week 3 of 2008 you are relevant again.

T.J. Duckett and Brandon Lloyd, two former Skins who played in the “Gibbs Squared” era each had big days yesterday.  Duckett ran for 79 yards and had 2 touchdowns, Lloyd caught 6 balls for 124 yards and 1 score averaging 20.7 yards a catch.  What this all means is that may be just may be, patience is a virtue?

Not for Ceratto, Skins GM and current radio darling who couldn’t wait to get these two guys out of town.  I don’t know what Duckett will do for the rest of the year or even what he’s done so far, but Lloyd looks rejuvenated and impressive.  Don’t worry though Vinny, Archuleta still sucks.

Coach Zorn and the Washington Redskins took another step in the right direction yesterday beating the Arizona Cardinals 24-17. The team used a variety of looks on offense including screen passes to Cooley and Moss, a reverse to Devin Thomas, and an option pass with Antwan Randel El. Jason Campbell had another strong performance completing over 70% of his passes for 2 scores and no interceptions. Clinton Portis only gained 68 yards on the ground but it was more than enough as Washington’s defense shutdown the vaunted Cardinals passing attack. Arizona only managed 197 passing yards, way down from the 364 they put up last week.

Redskins Executive Vice President Vinny Cerrato will unveil his new radio show tommorow morning entitled “Inside The Red Zone With Vinny Cerrato”. The show will of course be broadcast on “The Home of the Redskins” ESPN 980 and will air Mondays and Fridays from 10-12 in the morning. So the DC Sports Pulse wants to know, is this a good idea?

Who’s Covering Who?

by Dr. Gonzo on September 18, 2008

Dr. Gonzo Reporting,

It used to be that you had to subscribe to some newspaper daily in order to know what was going on with your favorite team.  Those days have now been replaced with the YOUTUBE World Order.  Not only do we get to see all our favorite highlights with the touch of a button, now athletes themselves are in control of the media.  We’ve always embraced the way technology has enhanced the pleasure of watching sports, but could this new era of coverage from every angle be a recipe for disaster?

Beast of the Week: Kevin Barnes

by Rooster on September 18, 2008

Beast n. slang.
a person who is very good at something
He’s an absolute beast when it comes to football.
v: to completely dominate, usually in a very physical and violent manner
Jahvid Best got beasted by Kevin Barnes

All we heard about leading up to last week’s Maryland v Cal game was how Cal’s Jahvid Best was the second coming of Reggie Bush. Either Best isn’t quite all that or the Terps defense is unbelievable because they held Best to only 25 yards rushing. To add injury to insult Best was lit up by Terps CB Kevin Barnes in one of the biggest college football hits this year. The video has already become a Youtube favorite but for those of you who missed it, here it is:

P.S: Best actually pulled an exorcist after this hit spewing some nasty green stuff while laying on the ground in pain. That’s just foul. This video omits said nastiness and instead plays some nice crunk rap in the background. Either way Best got jacked up and Barnes gets Beast of the Week honors.

Arenas to Miss One Month

by Dr. Gonzo on September 17, 2008

Dr. Gonzo Reporting,

Ever wonder how far a Wizards team could go if they stayed healthy all year?

With another season rapidly approaching our dreams of a fully healthy 2008-2009 campaign have been crushed, like Charlie Weis’s leg.  The Washington Post reported today that Agent Zero will miss the first month of the season, undergoing his third knee surgery in the past two seasons.

Arenas confirmed the report on his blog, citing floating debris as the cause of his most recent surgery.  Arenas said, “It was irritating the knee so we decided to go in there and clean it out. This should actually allow me to come back faster.”

Clinton Portis made his weekly appearance on ESPN 980’s the John Thompson show today and boy, what an appearance it was. Portis came into the interview like a run away freight train that only picked up steam as the interview progressed. “We got some haters and there is one on this show…He is so caught up in whatever I do…There’s a man on this show that can’t keep my name out of his mouth”. Portis has taken some criticism this week for his recent comments in The Washington Post in which he appeared to criticize the offensive line’s inability to open the kind of lanes CP ran through in Denver. Interestingly enough, we didn’t here much in the way of Portis reacting to his critics until now. Apparently he was saving all his wrath for ESPN980 radio personality, and former Redskin, Brian Mitchell.

DC Sports Week in Review

by Rooster on September 16, 2008

All is well in our nations capital this week. Maryland upsets Cal, The Redskins get a big win over the Saints, and oh yeah, Georgetown Prep shut out Gonzaga 42-0. Lets get it crackin’.

Redskins Rebound: The Washington Redskins rebounded in a big way on Sunday defeating the New Orleans Saints in front of a home crowd of 90,000 plus. Facing harsh criticism from fans and media alike, Jason Campbell, Jim Zorn, and the Redskins offense took a big step forward in proving that the West Coast Offense can function in our nations capital. Campbell finished the day 24/36 for 321 yards and 1 touchdown, a 67 yard cannon shot to reciever Santana Moss. Campbell completed passes to 9 different receivers but Moss appeared to be his favorite target. Hopefully they can become the next big QB-WR connection in the NFL.
ESPN.com Update: Redskins move from 23 to 19 in the power rankings while the Saints go from 4 down to 12. How the hell were the Saints ever at 4? I thought you had to play defense to be in the top 5? Redskins should have been around 15 this week.
