The Oakland Raiders are expected to release more than a dozen players today including two of their free agent signings DeAngelo Hall and Javon Walker. After hearing the news I had had several fans ask me whether or not the Redskins would be interested in Hall or Walker. In my opinion Hall is out of the question. I believe we have a solid secondary that will only improve with the return of Sean Springs. Walker on the other hand may be an intriguing proposition. With Moss ailing and Kelly on IR, Walker could add the size and depth at the receiver spot that the Redskins so desperately need right now. Walker, who is 6-3 and 215lbs, has only 13 receptions with the Raiders but was the go-to-guy in Denver and Green Bay. And remember, Randy Moss didn’t look so good as a Raider either. Actually, no one looks good as a Raider. So the DC Sports Pulse wants to know, what should The Redskins do:

The bye week could not come at a better time for the Washington Redskins. After the compete thrashing they took from the Steelers they will need the extra time to lick there wounds and check to make sure their balls are still intact. Last night’s game was hyped for featuring the most physical matchup of the season, the number one defense against the number one rushing offense. Instead we saw first hand why defense wins championships and why the Redskins are still a one dimensional football team. So much for Campbell being an elite QB. From the start Campbell was over matched both mentally and physically. He never figured out the Steelers blitz packages and coverage schemes and as a result looked like a scared, lost, little boy trying to find his mommy. What he found instead were big scary Linebackers and Defensive Lineman donning the black and gold.

Beast n. slang.
a person who is very good at something
He’s an absolute beast when it comes to football.
v: to completely dominate, usually in a very physical and violent manner
Clinton Portis was beasting out against Philly
Clinton Portis was the target of much of my venom earlier in the year. Not only did he call out his offensive line just days after a season opening loss to the Giants but he fantasized of playing with his old squad, The Denver Broncos. For these remarks he earned Herb of the Week honors. What a difference a month makes.

Dr. Gonzo Reporting,
Well, I was right. I predicted that the Redskins would win 4 games this year. Now maybe I was a tad pessimistic after week 1, and in all fairness, I had the right to be. Regardless, I was right, but humbled to say the least.
So the Skins have to play Dallas then Philly, back to back on the Road? 0-2, possibly 1-1 if they get lucky. Not so fast pessimistic Skins follower, they just went 2-0 in those games. No way, I wouldn’t believe it, but I saw it with my own two eyes.

Two wins on the road against division rivals is enough to give any team a certain swag. The team that was everyone’s pick for cellar dweller in the NFC Beast this season is finally getting the respect it deserves. And why shouldn’t they, they make for a great story. This is a team that tragically lost a star safety to murder and not so tragically a hall of fame coach to retirement all in the same year. A team that replaced Joe Gibbs with a no name quarterback coach that first referred to the Redskins as the maroon and black. A team that after two pre-season collapses and a devastating loss to the Giants on National Television looked on the verge of self destruction. All I can say is, what a difference a month makes. I am believing more and more that “on any given Sunday” in the NFL, good teams can look really bad and bad teams can look really good. But four straight wins is no fluke my friends, and members of the media are starting to take notice.

Dr. Gonzo Reporting,
The ESPN Power Ranking (however much weight you give them), have moved the Redskins up 9 places from 15th to 6th. ESPN included all 4 NFC East teams in the top ten.
They’ve come a long way from the “Maroon and Black.” A long way from having a first year guy who never called plays before. So much progress has happened since halftime of the NY Giants NFL opener: the Skins defense has only allowed 7 pts in the fourth quarter all year, oh yea, and Jason Campbell hasn’t turned the ball over at all. WHAT IS GOING ON?
Have the Redskins finally turned the corner? Have they finally turned their backs on mediocrity? Are they actually living up to the hype?

Dr. Gonzo Reporting,
You heard the chants last week: WE WANT DALLAS, WE WANT DALLAS!!
Tomorrow at 4:15 eastern time we get em’.
The 3-0 Cowboys will attempt to defend their home turf for a final time against NFC EAST enemy the 2-1 Redskins. It sure as hell wont be easy to beat a team with the top offense in the league, but if anyone can do it, it’s the Skins.
Let me remind you that just two seasons ago, Sean Taylor recovered a blocked field goal all the way in to our kickers range, and we stole one.
And who can forget our Monday night triumph, when the number 8 car found a speedy and healthy Santana Moss for two fourth quarter touchdowns. Then to seal the deal, that Taylor guy destroyed a Cowboy receiver at the line to solidify a defensive stop that would lead to a 14-13 Redskins shocker.
Those memories are fresh in the fans minds, memories of never quitting until the last whistle. Not all our memories are great; there was the time Aikman found Ismail for deep balls, deflating the Redskins home crowd. Or the images of that coke head Irving getting away with countless offensive pass interferences.
If nothing else, we know the Skins will get up for this game.
I urge everyone to go online and watch Troy Aikman get obliterated by Lavar and try to find a rare clip of Dan Turk lighting up Deion Sanders on a punt return. Take in all those old memories, because that’s all you can do right now, reflect and hope that Sunday will add to the memories of Cowboy failure.
Nothing would be sweeter than going in to the cesspool they call Cowboy Stadium one more time and ruining their last home game in this rivalry.
I want to see Romo on his ass, TO dropping balls over the middle and Roy Williams getting toasted by Santana Moss.
I know I’m ready, Are you ready coach Z?
You may have like the Cowboys before, you may have said, “hey may be they are Americas team,” but that was before you put on the Burgundy and Gold. Get up to speed quick and get ready for a game that has all the passion of a collegiate rivalry and all the insanity of pro ball.
One more day till Dallas week comes to a climactic head, don’t miss this one.
P.S. If anyone sees Rooster, tell him that he still writes for this blog.

It was a week that proved it’s ok to be a Redskin, a week that taught us to believe in an underog and yet another week that proved the NFC EAST’s dominance.
Boy, what a week to be a current or former Redskin!
I bet you thought you would never read that Gus Frerotte, Brandon Lloyd and T.J. Duckett all had big weeks in 2008. You’d think someone was out of they’re mind if they said that a month ago, well it happened. “In Gus we Trust,” sound familiar, Gus was once again trusted with a team that was on the verge of dropping to a record of 0-3. Not many teams have bounced back from such a putrid start, but have no fear Gus is here.
Trailing by 10 to Carolina, with the season on the line, Frerotte threw for 204 yards railing the Vikings to 20 straight points. Now I know there are Gus haters out there, my father being one of them, but when I was younger Gus was all we had. I always put my trust in Gus and often I am rewarded. Gus, no one will ever forget your Billy Goat head butt, but in Week 3 of 2008 you are relevant again.
T.J. Duckett and Brandon Lloyd, two former Skins who played in the “Gibbs Squared” era each had big days yesterday. Duckett ran for 79 yards and had 2 touchdowns, Lloyd caught 6 balls for 124 yards and 1 score averaging 20.7 yards a catch. What this all means is that may be just may be, patience is a virtue?
Not for Ceratto, Skins GM and current radio darling who couldn’t wait to get these two guys out of town. I don’t know what Duckett will do for the rest of the year or even what he’s done so far, but Lloyd looks rejuvenated and impressive. Don’t worry though Vinny, Archuleta still sucks.

Coach Zorn and the Washington Redskins took another step in the right direction yesterday beating the Arizona Cardinals 24-17. The team used a variety of looks on offense including screen passes to Cooley and Moss, a reverse to Devin Thomas, and an option pass with Antwan Randel El. Jason Campbell had another strong performance completing over 70% of his passes for 2 scores and no interceptions. Clinton Portis only gained 68 yards on the ground but it was more than enough as Washington’s defense shutdown the vaunted Cardinals passing attack. Arizona only managed 197 passing yards, way down from the 364 they put up last week.

Clinton Portis made his weekly appearance on ESPN 980’s the John Thompson show today and boy, what an appearance it was. Portis came into the interview like a run away freight train that only picked up steam as the interview progressed. “We got some haters and there is one on this show…He is so caught up in whatever I do…There’s a man on this show that can’t keep my name out of his mouth”. Portis has taken some criticism this week for his recent comments in The Washington Post in which he appeared to criticize the offensive line’s inability to open the kind of lanes CP ran through in Denver. Interestingly enough, we didn’t here much in the way of Portis reacting to his critics until now. Apparently he was saving all his wrath for ESPN980 radio personality, and former Redskin, Brian Mitchell.
